My Best Friend

If there is one person I would consider as my best friend, it would be my friend Meliha. She has been my best friend for the past three years. I have got quite a few pretty classmates who think no end of themselves because of their looks, but that is not the case with Meliha. Though Meliha is quite a beauty with her fair skin and light brown hair, she is never proud about that fact. In fact, she seems toi be unaware of her beauty. Rather, Meliha prefers to concentrate her attention on getting good grades and helping her classmates. Her greatest ambition is to go to university and get a degree. For one so young, she has lofty ambitions. I greatly admire and respect her for that.

However, there lies a story behind this ambition. Meliha had confided to me that when she was a little girl, her parents had been very poor. They were living in India at that time on a hand to mouth existence. They led an immensely difficult life. It all stopped when their maternal uncle came into some money and so decided to help them. Meliha’s father used the money to come to Singapore with his family to seek a new life, Since Meliha had first hand experience of poverty, she greatly treasures her education for she knows that it is the gateway to a better life.

The other attribute I greatly admire is her “no gossip” policy. Quite a number of my clasmates like to indulge in gossiping but not Meliha. Whenever she finds herself in the middle of such a gathering, she immediately distance herself from them.

Meliha is one of the most persevering people that I have ever encountered If she comes across a rather complicated mathematical problem, she does not give up or ask someone for help but rather she persists and analyzes and reasons until she comes up with the correct solution.

Her talent lies not only in the academic field but in the entertainment field as well! Meliha always finds something humorous to say about her teachers or classmates but her comments are never hurtful or sarcastic. This is one of the reasons why she gets along well with people.

Thanks to these star qualities she possesses, she is one of the most popular girls in our class and in our hearts and we know that she will go very far in her life.
