My Father - The Policeman

My father works as a policeman. He is a sergeant. He goes to work in a navy blue uniform.

My father’s work is different from the ordinary police officer’s. He does not patrol the streets to seek out law-breakers nor does he make arrests. His task is to train new recruits. Recruits are people who have just started work with the police force.

He trains a small group of recruits. The training is for a short period of time but it is tough. Undergoing such a training would help to build a police officer’s character and instil discipline in him or her. The recruit sometimes has to march in the hot sun or the cold rain with a rifle slumped against his shoulder as part of this training. Besides this, they also participate in sports like soccer and wrestling.

My father has been with the police force for almost 25 years now. He says he will be retiring very soon. Then, he will spend his time in the garden. He has always loved gardening. He has been told that he has green fingers too!
