My Favourite Author
PRIMARY SCHOOL COMPOSITIONS (UPPER PRIMARY)

My favourite author is a man called Roald Dahl. He is from Norway but all his books are in English. He seems quite old in his picture. When he was young, he served as a fighter pilot in the Second World War.
I started reading Roald Dahl’s books when I was in Primary four. My mother had bought me one of his books entitled’Charlie and the Amazing Chocolate Factory’. The book is about the adventures of Charlie and how he helped to make the factory, which had been closed down, run again. The story line is very original, imaginative and interesting. I had never enjoyed reading so much.
After that book, I tried to look for other books by Roald Dahl in the library. Unfortunately, all of Roald Dahl’s books lad been lent out. So, I found out that there were many Roald Dahl fans out there. However, most of my classmateg still preferred to read books by Enid Blyton or the Sweet Valley and Singapore Ghost Stories series. I have one classmate, Usha, who likes Roald Dahl’s books too. She has two of his books, ‘Matilda’ and ‘The BFG’. She kindly lent me the two books while I lent her my one and only Roald Dahl book.
I enjoyed reading ‘Matilda’ the most. In fact, it has remained my favourite book until today. The book is about a very intelligent little girl named Matilda. Matilda has a terrible family that does not care and love her at all and she also has a really frightening principal. The person who cares the most about her is her teacher, who is always bullied by the principal. I like the book so much that I saved up some of my pocket money to buy it.
The other book ‘The BFG’ is very funny. ‘BFG’ stands for’Big Friendly Giant’ and it is about the awfully funny adventures of that giant. He is actually quite shy and scared of others even though he is so big, but some circumstances happened to make him a really friendly giant. I did finally manage to borrow some of Roald Dahl’s books from the library. I shared my books with Usha and she shared hers with me. We have become very good friends because of our common interest.
By the beginning of this year, Usha and I have read almost all of Roald Dahl’s books. We have yet to get hold of ‘Going Solo’, which is actually the story of Roald Dahl’s life when he was serving as a fighter pilot. We like Roald Dahl because his style of writing is very original and he is full of imagination. The language he used is also very effective, pithough it is quite simple to understand. I hope I would be able to own all his books one day so that I can pass them on to my children in the distant future.
