My Life as a Stray

I am a stray cat. I live in an alley with a few other strays. We are friends.

Every morning, we look for food in garbage dumps and restaurant kitchens. If we are lucky, we get nice food from the cooks in restaurants. We usually eat food directly from the ground. I think I have never eaten out of a dish since I was born a year ago. My mother died of a terrible disease. I could only watch her go.

It is getting difficult to stay in the alley nowadays. We often get chased by the surrounding residents. Sometimes, I wish I could live in a regular house with a nice little child to take care of me. My friends.

One day, a small van stopped by the alley. Some men in caps came out. They had nets in their hands. Before I knew it, I was inside the van. Some of my friends escaped. We were brought to a centre for animals. It is not too bad. We get taken care of and fed daily. My friends and I begin to look cute again. Perhaps one day, a little girl will come and bring me to her house. But for now, I am very happy staying in this hotel for animals.
