Narrate your experiences of an unusual ride.

We were on a trip to Thailand when it happened. My aunt has a share in a timber company in northern Thailand and we, my sister and I, had gone to visit her. Actually the original plan was to go around the grounds in a jeep. But fortunately the jeep broke down and we had one other choice — to ride on an elephant. We readily agreed.

Soon the majestic animal stood before us awaiting our pleasure. It had a sort of platform on its back and the mahout sat on its neck. We were lucky, the man spoke a bit of English. He said something to the elephant and the giant knelt down for us to get on. We clambered aboard and once we were comfortable seated, the mahout said something again. The elephant got up slowly and wandered off.

At first we felt awkward sitting so high above the ground and thought that if the elephant moved fast we could fall off. But we need not have bothered. The elephant moved very slowly, as if it was out for a stroll. On the way we met many other elephants and our elephant seemed to greet some of them with a trumpet. Some of the elephants replied in like manner.

We took a long ride around the area and found that it was comfortable indeed. We enjoyed the ride very much as it was a unique experience. After about one hour we were back at the office even though we did not know how we got there. Again the elephant knelt down and we got off. We thanked the mahout and patted the elephant on its trunk by way of thanks.It had a very intelligent look so I thing it understood what we were trying to say. Then it got up and ambled away. We gazed after it until it disappeared around the bend.
