Dear Mr Lee,

I am writing to nominate David Tan for the Pupil of the Month Award. On 4 May 2021 at 9.00 a.m., I witnessed an incident at the school car park that showed David's kindness and helpfulness.

A delivery driver was facing a problem because his trolley had broken down while he was delivering bread to the school canteen. Seeing this, David borrowed a trolley from the canteen and helped him transport the loaves of bread from the truck.

The delivery driver showed his appreciation by thanking David and offering him a loaf of bread. However, David politely declined the gift and explained that helping others was the right thing to do.

I believe pupils can learn the value of kindness from David, as he willingly helped someone in need without expecting any reward.

How to Plan and Write This Situational Writing for PSLE Grade A1

Step 1: Identify PAF (Purpose, Audience, Format)

Purpose

To nominate David Tan for the Pupil of the Month Award.

Audience

Mr Lee, the Principal.

Format

Formal Email.

Because you are writing to the principal, your tone must be respectful and formal.

Step 2: Highlight the Required Content Points

Content Point - Information from the Pictures

When incident happened - 4 May 2021, 9.00 a.m.

Problem faced by truck driver - His trolley was broken

How David helped - Borrowed a trolley and helped transport the bread

How driver showed appreciation - Thanked David and offered him a loaf of bread

Important value - Kindness (or helpfulness)

Step 4: Expand the Content Points

Weak answer: David helped the driver.

A1 answer: Seeing the driver's difficulty, David borrowed a trolley from the canteen and helped him transport the loaves of bread from the truck.

Always explain how and why.

Step 5: Use Strong A1 Vocabulary

Simple Word - A1 Vocabulary

saw - witnessed

problem - difficulty

helped - assisted

thanked - expressed his appreciation

kind - compassionate

give - offer

good behaviour - exemplary conduct

Example:

✅ David demonstrated kindness and a willingness to help others in need.

Step 6: Use Formal Linking Words

Examples:

Step 7: Write a Strong Recommendation

Since the purpose is to nominate David, end with a convincing recommendation.

Example: I strongly believe David deserves the Pupil of the Month Award because he demonstrated kindness, responsibility and selflessness.

This directly supports the purpose of the email.
