Our Discipline Master

Mr Chua is our discipline master. He is a tall Chinese man of about fifty years of age. He rarely smiles. It is difficult to tell if he is angry or otherwise because of this.

Mr Chua believes in caning as students fear that most. Even more so when the caning is carried out before the school’s population. However, students in the school get caned only for very serious misconduct. Mr Chua dresses neatly. His longsleeved shirt and trousers always look well-pressed. His short hair is neatly combed. His shoes gleam. Once, I saw him walking about the school grounds with a cane in hand. He rarely does that.

As a discipline master, Mr Chua’s duties and responsibilities are great. He makes sure that students are well-behaved and do not get themselves involved in activities like smoking and gambling. He also makes sure there are no secret society gangs operating among students in the school.

I believe Mr Chua has a difficult job. But I think that he makes a good discipline master because the students in my school are mostly well-behaved and happy.
