“Grandma, I can’t do this!” I groaned, slamming my pencil onto the table. Fractions seemed impossible to understand.
My grandmother smiled kindly. “Learning takes time. Be patient, and you will succeed.”
For the next few weeks, Grandma spent every afternoon teaching me. No matter how many mistakes I made, she never lost her temper. She patiently explained each step, correcting my errors and encouraging me to keep trying. Whenever I became frustrated, she would remind me that even the tallest trees started as tiny seeds.
At first, I wanted quick results. However, I soon realised that improvement did not happen overnight. Day after day, I practised diligently while Grandma guided me. Although progress was slow, I gradually became more confident.
One day, my mathematics teacher announced a class test. As I stared at the paper, I felt nervous. Many of the questions were about fractions. Taking a deep breath, I carefully worked through each problem. I remembered Grandma’s advice and resisted the urge to rush.
A week later, the teacher returned the marked papers. My heart pounded as she placed mine on the desk. To my delight, I had scored ninety-five marks! I could hardly believe my eyes.
That evening, I rushed home and showed Grandma my test paper. She beamed with pride and hugged me warmly.
At that moment, I understood the value of patience. Grandma’s patience in teaching me and my patience in practising had helped me achieve success. I learnt that worthwhile achievements often require time, effort and perseverance.
