Patrick Stumbled Upon Some Nests Under A Flyover

It was one late morning. A boy, Patrick, was walking under a flyover. The scene was filled with lush vegetation. Suddenly, something attracted his attention. Birds were flying to and fro. He was curious and anxious to find out where they were heading. Perhaps their nest could be in the vicinity. He scanned the surrounding for any telltale signs of a nest. At this juncture, many birds were flying to a spot on the ground.

He crept stealthily to the scene. As he peered anxiously at the spot, he was astonished to discover four nests in a row. There were six birds feeding twelve baby birds. Their presence was partly hidden from public view owing to the overgrown grass. Patrick admired the selfless birds feeding its young! The young fed on regurgitated food from the parent birds.

Meanwhile, Patrick was so engrossed in watching them that he failed to keep himself out of sight. He rose and thus betrayed his presence. The birds were annoyed. They fluttered their wings as they guarded their nests jealously. As Patrick intended to take a good look at their nests, he approached them cautiously. The birds were alarmed and flew off, leaving their eggs and baby birds behind. The baby birds were helpless and waiting for their parent birds to return. As Patrick reached for a baby bird, the parent birds were circling overhead. One swooped down and tried to attack Patrick. Patrick ducked for cover in time. He fled for dear life!
