Pickpocketed

I am Jackie. I just celebrated my 10th birthday. However, I was cheated once about two years ago.

It all happened in a minute. I had just taken out a dollar from my wallet and given it to a fruit seller who was packing the oranges in a plastic bag for me. I then dropped my wallet into another bag of books and returned home. I did not check my bag of books or pockets on my way as I did not need money to purchase anything else. On reaching home, I was asked by my mother to buy some fresh milk from the store opposite to my flat. I then remembered my wallet which I had kept in my bag of books. To my dismay, my wallet was nowhere to be found. “What had happened to my wallet?” Even with great effort, I could not recollect at all.

During the night, I remembered the sequence of the events. I faintly recollected a boy who was just behind me asking for two oranges, offered only thirty cents each. I also bought the oranges from the same fruit seller. In the twinkle of an eye, the boy vanished in the crowd. Perhaps it was the same boy who had lifted the wallet from my bag of books. The wallet contained my identity card, my ATM card, my library cards and ez-link card

Even though this happened two years ago, it was the most unforgettable incident in my life as the boy could not be more than five years old at that time. I could not imagine anyone committing a crime at such a young age.
