Piling Boom Crushed Man To Death

It was a sunny Tuesday morning. A construction site clerk, Tommy, was busy at work in his makeshift office. He was attending to some of his company’s accounts in his cramped premises when piling work commenced noisily. His company intended to build two-storey semi-detached houses at the site. As the deafening noise continued, Tommy got up to make a cup of hot tea. To him, hot tea helped to fight off his work fatigue. A minute later, he sat down and was sipping the tea. Looking out of the window, he saw birds chirping and colourful flowers in full bloom. What a spectacular sight!

All of a sudden, the piling machine operator, Mr. Lim, raised the alarm as the 21 metre-long boom collapsed. “Help! The boom is falling!Run for your life!” he screamed frantically as he tried to alert Tommy. However, it was too late. The 25-tonne boom smashed right through the makeshift wooden shack which Tommy used as his office. The ground shook as it landed. Loud screams filled the air as Tommy was pinned down by the boom. Mr. Lim raced to the scene and was stunned by Tommy’s plight. He tried to drag Tommy out from the fallen boom but it was in vain. Soon he rushed to summon help. A crane was summoned but Tommy was already dead.
