Weiming loved playing with cars. On his eleventh birthday, he received a remote-controlled car. He was really thrilled and he spent many hours playing with it. It was the holidays,so Weiming had lots of time to play with his new toy. One day, while he was at the void-deck playing with his car as usual, he saw another boy playing with a remote-controlled car. The two boys started discussing their toys and they exchanged racing tips. Then, the other boy, Raju, suggested that they organised a race with other boys in the neighbourhood.

The two boys set about publicising the race. They put a big banner at their void deck and they designed a pamphlet about the race and distributed it in the flats near-by. They received about fifty responses. As the number was too big for a proper race, they had to meet for a friendly race first, and they had to go in rounds.

On the day of the race, however, only about fifteen boys turned up, so they went in rounds of five cars each. Before the race, the boys admired one another’s cars and got to know one another. The mothers of Weiming and Raju even provided some light refreshments for the boys. The race took place at the void deck at first. Then, one of the boys came up with a naughty idea. They decided that they should race at the car parking area. It was definitely not a safe place, but the boys were too caught up with racing.

A few minutes later, two police officers arrived and warned the boys not to race at the car parking area. The officers told the boys about the dangers of meeting with an accident. The boys realised their mistakes and they went back to race at the void deck.

The races were quite exciting but after some time, some of the boys started to bang their cars into other boys’ cars. Weiming and Raju were very annoyed as their cars got slightly damaged. They called an end to the race and they decided they should just race with each other and not with the other naughty boys.

So, for the next few weeks, Weiming and Raju raced their remote-controlled cars with each other and they enjoyed themselves tremendously. They could even performed ‘stunts’ with their toys.
