Subject: Request to Take Our Class to a Play

Dear Mr Ong,

I recently came across an online post about Secrets of the Forest, a play adapted from a popular children's book. The performances will be held from 24 to 28 November 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Arts College Auditorium.

I am keen to watch this play because I have read the book and enjoyed it very much. Watching the play will also help students like me understand the story better.

I hope you will consider taking our class because schools receive a 20% discount when purchasing at least thirty tickets, and each ticket comes with a complimentary learning pack. I believe my classmates will welcome the idea as the play sounds exciting and educational.

If you decide to take our class, please email schoolbookings@sct.sg with the preferred date and number of tickets required.

Yours sincerely,
Rosie

How to Plan and Write a PSLE English Grade A1 Situational Writing

Step 1: Highlight the Purpose

Ask yourself:

  • Who am I? → Rosie

  • Who am I writing to? → Mr Ong

  • Why am I writing? → To persuade him to take the class to the play

Step 2: Find the Required Points

Tick off every bullet point:

Required Point - Information

Why keen to watch the play - Enjoyed the book; understand story better

Dates of performance - 24–28 November 2025

Two persuasive details - 20% discount; complimentary learning pack

Why classmates will welcome it - Exciting and educational

What Mr Ong needs to do - Email schoolbookings@sct.sg with date and ticket number

Step 3: Use the Correct Format

✔ Subject line
✔ Greeting (Dear Mr Ong,)
✔ Purpose in first paragraph
✔ One paragraph for details and persuasion
✔ Proper closing (Yours sincerely,)
✔ Name (Rosie)

Step 4: Use Strong A1 Language

Instead of:

  • "I want to watch the play."

Write:

  • "I am keen to watch the play because it will help me gain a better understanding of the story."

Instead of:

  • "Please take us there."

Write:

  • "I hope you will consider taking our class to the performance."

Step 5: Check Before Submitting

Use this PSLE checklist:

✅ All bullet points included
✅ Information copied accurately from the poster
✅ Formal email format used
✅ Complete sentences
✅ Correct grammar and punctuation
✅ Polite and persuasive tone

A1 Tip

The most common reason pupils lose marks is missing a content point. Before finishing, check that all five bullet points have been included. Even excellent English cannot get full marks if important information is left out.
