Returning A Package Left Behind By An Alighting Commuter

One fine afternoon, a twelve-year-old female student, Margaret, was travelling in a public transport. It was a double-decker and she was Seated at the upper deck. The upper deck was empty. Ventilation was good and she felt very cool. The vehicle was travelling in the suburbs Detached houses and shady trees lined the route. As she sat comfortably, she could catch a glimpse of this peaceful residential area.

At a fare-stage further down the four-lane road, the bus stopped to pick up an elegant lady in her mid twenties. She sat in a front row of the upper deck. Margaret took no notice of her.

The elegant lady got off the bus at a fare-stage after it had rounded a bend. The bus stop was crowded with anxious commuters and they were mostly teenagers. Soon the vehicle picked up speed and was heading towards town. At this juncture, Margaret spotted a package lying on a seat which was formerly occupied by that elegant lady. She opened it and was shocked to see a pouch containing gold ornaments, a gold pen with its owner’s name inscribed on it, a POSB passbook, the owner’s identity card, and a duly completed and signed Withdrawal Form for the sum of nine hundred dollars.

Meanwhile, Margaret acted fast and got off from the bus at the next bus stop. She looked around for the owner. All of a sudden, she spotted the owner crossing the road. She ran up and handed the package to its rightful owner. Margaret was an honest girl.
