Should Both Sexes Have Equal Rights?

The answer to the question is an emphatic “Yes!”. It is natural that men and women should be created differently but that they should cooperate in all areas. Cooperation is best carried out by equal partners.

If men were to try to dominate women or if women were to try to dominate men, the result will be rivalry. Each group will pull in opposite directions, leading to strife in almost all areas. Beginning with the family, it is obvious that the mother’s and wife’s role is different from the father’s and husband’s role. The mother is naturally inclined to shower love on babies and children until they are old enough. Children need mothers when they are young, and it is practically impossible for the father to fulfill the responsibility of a mother.

Traditionally, father’s bring home the bread but now mother’s too want to be career women. I am in total disagreement to this trend. As a young person, I love both my parents very much and am much perturbed that when I get home, neither of them are there for me to confide in. It does not feel like home at all. Then when both of them come home in the evening, they are both tired and want to rest or be themselves. If any of my siblings or I have a problem, it is sometimes not clear which parent we should refer to. Sometimes they even quarrel among themselves to assert that it is the other person who should be dealing with the problem. This, to me, seems to be that they are trying to assert their superiority. It does not make any sense to me when it appears that they have to fight to assert their equality — so I assume that they are actually asserting their superiority.

Perhaps society is not yet ordered in such a way that it gives men and women equal rights. We see an example of this even in the government service. Children of fathers in the government service are entitled to medical benefits but not children of mothers. Hence what we have is lip service in many quarters that women and men have equal rights. They do not, and so are fighting over it. In my opinion, they must have equality in order for the world to be a happier place.
