Stage Fright

One Children’s Day, I was chosen to act in a play. The play was based on a popular fairy tale- ‘Little Red Riding Hood!’ I had the part of the big, bad wolf.

As I stood backstage in my hairy costume, I did not feel at all like a big, bad wolf. I felt I was going to give a ‘bad’ act. I broke out in cold sweat. Suddenly, the emcee was on stage. The play was about to start. People were rushing all around me. Then I felt someone dragging and half-pushing me to move on stage. “It’s your part now!” said Mr Teng.

My heart was in my mouth. As the wolf, I had to growl fiercely and scare Red Riding Hood. I immediately decide to run about the tree props on stage first. The audience could not see much of me then. As I was darting back and forth, now behind a ‘rock’ and then behind a ’tree’, I heard the hooded girl hum a tune. I decided to mimick her lines. I did so in frightening voices that scared the little girl. It also made the audience laugh.

The audience enjoyed the play. I was glad. I had even gotten over my stage fright.
