Step 1: Understand the Pictures

Picture 1: Student Raising His Hand

• Suggests courage.

• Someone decides to speak up or take action.

Picture 2: Apology Message

• The words "Hey, I'm sorry about..." suggest apologising.

• The first step may be admitting a mistake.

Picture 3: Handshake

• Reconciliation.

• A problem is solved and relationships improve.

Step 2: Identify the Theme

The topic is "Taking the First Step."

This means:

• Someone is afraid, hesitant or embarrassed.

• He or she finally takes action.

• Good things happen because of that action.

The first step is the most important part of the story.

Step 3: Use This Structure

Introduction

• Introduce the conflict or problem.

• Explain why the characters are not getting along.

Build-Up
