Chee Seng and Faizal were good friends. They belong to a secret society which consisted of about twenty other youths.Their leader was a twenty-year-old man named Jason. Jason did not have a full-time job but he always seemed to have plenty of money. Jason was a very cunning man and he had cheated quite a few people before. Chee Seng and Faizal were recruited when they were in Primary Five last year. They usually skipped school and played truant. Their parents were too busy working and they did not know what their sons were up to. Their teachers tried to advise them but they refused to listen.

Three months ago, Jason decided to train some of the gang members to steal cars. Chee Seng and Faizal were chosen to be part of the team. They usually operated at night or in the afternoons at newer or quieter housing estates. Chee Seng and Faizal would act as lookouts. Usually, Jason and a few other boys would have spied on some car owners before they actually steal the cars. They would observe when the car owners returned and when would be the best time to steal the cars.

While Chee Seng and Faizal acted as lookouts, Jason and two other older boys would use some tools and break open the doors of the cars. Some of the car owners were careless enough to leave their keys in the car. If there were no keys,Jason would use specially-made keys to start the car. They managed to steal about three cars in this manner. Each time, Chee Seng and Faizal got a fee of fifty dollars each.

Last month, the gang was finally caught when a car park attendant spotted them behaving suspiciously at an HDB car park. She quietly went to call the police and the police arrived quickly. It was too late for the boys to escape and they were caught red-handed. Jason and the two older boys were sent to jail. The gang disbanded after that.

Chee Seng and Faizal and some of the other younger boys were sent to a boys’ home. They regretted what they had done and they are trying their best to put the past behind and to start a new life. They have since gone back to school but they are still very interested in cars. They hope to be mechanics when they grow up.
