The Danger Of Looking For A Missing Article On A Road

One early morning, a pupil, John, was going to school on foot. Halfway he discovered his school badge was missing. He became worried and restless. He would be reprimanded by his teacher for failing to display his badge. He dared not face his strict principal. The scene was dim as he retraced his steps towards a side road. He remembered that he had pinned his badge on his school uniform the previous night. It could have possibly dropped onto the pavement because minutes earlier, it was still on his uniform. He began to search for his badge. He peered anxiously at the tiled pavement. However, he found nothing. He glanced at his watch. It was half past six. He moved further down the side road. All of a sudden, he spotted an object on the ground. His eyes gleamed with pleasure as he thought that it was his badge. However, his joy was short-lived as it turned out to be something else.

At this juncture, his patience was wearing thin. He ventured onto the road, thinking that the road was almost deserted except for a car or two. He looked far and wide as he did not have much time left to go to school. He was perspiring profusely as he moved stealthily on the dim road. Suddenly, he stumbled upon his missing badge and heaved a sigh of relief. He jumped for joy as he bent down to pick it up. Without warning, a speeding car appeared and knocked him down. He died instantly on the spot. There was a pool of blood at the scene.

He paid dearly for trying to find his missing badge on the road. He posed a hazard to road-users.
