The Day The Ball Bounced Back

It was a bright Saturday morning. A football player, George, was in a large field. He practised kicking the ball into the goalpost. He kicked the ball from different positions. As there was no one to intercept the ball, he was practising freely. At times, he would pretend that someone was blocking his path and he would improve his skill at manoeuvring the ball round his opponent. With speed and fast reflexes, he sent it into the goalpost. Each goal brought him a sense of triumph. He was jubilant.After an hour-long of practice, he rested under a shady tree. He gulped down his plain water from a container.

After a while, he resumed his practice. He wanted to improve further on his skills as he was not contented. At a distance, he kicked the ball hard. At this juncture, something happened. The ball missed its target. The ball hit the wooden pole of the goalpost and bounced back towards him. He tried to duck for cover but it was too late. The ball hit him hard and he fell to the ground. He looked dazed and his nose was bleeding. A short while later, he staggered to the exit of the field to seek medical attention.

He never expected the ball to bounce back and hit him hard!
