The Day The Tractors Came

I used to live in a small village. Right in front of our house was a huge piece of wasteland. On it grew many different kinds of shrubs, bushes and trees. In the centre, there was a pond beside which stood a well. The well was not in use.

My brothers and I spent a lot of time on this piece of land.We always had plenty to do on that piece of land. We fished in the pond one day and caught an eel. We climbed trees and plucked rambutans. We watched waterskaters perform feats on the water surface of the pond.

One day, the tractors came- two giant orange-coloured machines. At first I was terrified. The word “Caterpillar” was displayed boldly on the back of the machines. I had never seen,such monstrosities before. The machines then began to work on our precious wasteland. We were shocked! Slowly the tractors levelled our “playground”.A few cobras and rattlers were uncovered.

Then my brother took an empty cardboard box, got into it and slid down the steep slope of a newly created hill of clay. The rest of us soon followed suit. The view was nice from the top of the hill. The ride to the bottom was thrilling.

When the tractors left, we were left with a new playing ground.
