The Day Thirty Balloons Posed A Hazard To Road-Users

One windy morning, thirty balloons drifted low on the road. Traffic was heavy. A sudden gust of wind soon scattered them and they drifted in difference directions. A pedestrian heard a screech of tyres as vehicle tried to dodge the balloons. A busload of foreign tourists went off the road and landed in a ditch. Many suffered cuts and bruises. The driver escaped unhurt and looked dazed. As the day wore on, a motorcyclist,Simon, was startled to see a handful of balloons cut across his path. He was at wits’ end. He swerved and collided with a textile-laden van. There was a heated argument between the two road-users. All traffic slowed to a crawl as other balloons drifted to the midst of the road. A scooterist, James, and his pillion rider, Susan, were chatting happily as the vehicle sped on the road. They were on the way to a local bank to deposit some crossed cheques and the day’s takings of over a thousand dollars. James and Susan were newly-weds and owned a rice stall in a new housing estate. Business was brisk. Susan spotted two balloons drifting towards them and raised the alarm. James slowed down and tried to sweep off the balloons with his left hand. It was a failure. To make matters worse, a sand-laden truck appeared and rammed James’s scooter. Both James and Susan were pinned under the truck. They were crushed to death. Blood splattered on the scooter. There was a pool of blood on the scene too.

At this juncture, an onlooker, Jason, acted fast. The balloons posed a hazard to road-users. He ran after the drifting balloons while another kind passerby held up the traffic. Jason pricked holes in the balloons, bursting them. The balloons were rendered harmless. Jason saved the day!
