The Day We Shifted To Our New Home

I used to live in Kim Seng Road, which was very near town. When my parents announced that we were going to be shifting to a new flat the following year, I was very sad because it meant that I had to transfer to another school, as our new flat is in Woodlands. So, I transferred to a new school at the beginning of last year. I had to travel about one and half hours from my previous home to my new school for the first month because we only shifted in February.

By then, I was a little relieved that we were finally shifting because I was very tired of travelling such a long distance to School every day. Also, I had made some new friends in my new school. Of course, I was still a little sad to leave my old friends and neighbours. My younger brother who was only four years old then was not sad at all but very excited. My parents were very busy and hassled and I tried my best to help out by packing all my stuff into boxes.

We started packing about one week before we were gupposed to move. We were still packing on the eve of the move. We were very tired but we forced ourselves to wake up early the next day, as the movers’ truck was coming at gbout eight o’clock in the morning. We had a quick breakfast at the hawker centre and then went home to wait for the truck. The movers arrived on time and they started shifting all the boxes into the back of the truck first. My father helped them. It was very hard and back-breaking work because all the boxes were very heavy.

Then, they moved all the furniture. Soon, they discovered that one truck was not enough, so they called for another truck. We really have a lot of stuff. By lunch-time they were ready to go to our new place. We went first and waited for them at the void deck of our block. I was quite pleased with our new flat because it is very big. There are three bedrooms,a study, a living room, a dining room, a storeroom, a kitchen and a balcony. It is really lovely. I have my own bedroom of course, and I have a new bed.

The hard work began all over again as the movers and my father started to move all our stuff into the new house.They took about two hours to complete the moving. When the moving was completed, we went to a nearby food court to have a late lunch. Then, we came back to take a nap as we were extremely exhausted. We spent the next few days lnpacking our things and arranging them in order. I also accompanied my mother to shop for new curtains, cushions and other household stuff.

We are very happy with our new home and I am really glad that I need not take such a long time to go to schoo anymore. In fact, my school is within walking distance from my new home. Also, there is a huge, new shopping centre known as Causeway Point nearby, that we all look forward to visit each weekend.
