The Door Slammed Shut, Injuring A Boy’s Hand

It was a cold morning. A mother, Mrs. Chan, was fast asleep in bed. Her five-year old son, John, was wide awake. Hunger pangs gripped him and he went to wake his mother up. The door was not latched in position. It was ajar. He entered the room, took his mother’s hand and shook it. Mrs. Chan stirred in her sleep. Through bleary eyes she looked at John. John whispered to her of his yearning for early breakfast.However, she could not make out what he was saying. At this juncture,John ran to the door. Before he left the room, he turned round and placed his hand near the door. He beckoned his mother to follow him to the kitchen. She started to yawn repeatedly and stretch her limbs. She did not have a restful sleep the previous night. John waited patiently at the door.

All of a sudden, the wind blew in sharp gusts outside. The windows were open. By this time, mother and child were in the midst of a conversation. Mother was fond of John as he was cute and obedient. Her eyes gleamed with delight as she conversed with him. Without warning,the door shut with a loud slam. John’s hand was caught and he yelled for help. He was in great pain. On seeing her son’s plight, Mrs. Chan rushed to his aid. John’s hand was swollen and bruised. He waved his swollen hand while his mother rushed to get the first aid kit. John burst into tears as his mother applied medicinal cream on his swollen hand to soothe the pain.

She later rushed him to the nearest hospital for medical treatment. It was a freak incident!
