The Hazard Of Reading A Newspaper In A Bus

One sunny morning, a male passenger, Mr. Ling, was travelling in a bus. The bus was not crowded with commuters. He was reading a newspaper when there was a sudden gust of wind. He was startled when the newspaper flapped, much to the annoyance of passengers sitting near to him. The wind soon proved too much for him. Two pieces of newspaper were blown away all of a sudden and they landed on the female passenger sitting at the rear. She gave out a loud scream as the papers covered her face, causing her sunglasses to fall and break. The other commuters started shouting abuse at him, much to the embarrassment of Mr. Ling. Then they started nagging at his inconsideration. They accused him of showing off.

At this juncture, Mr. Ling was confused and upset. A minute later, he rose and apologised profusely to the commuters for causing them much inconvenience. He kept bowing his head. Without warning, another sudden gust of wind caused him to lose grip of his remaining papers. A kind boy saw his plight and closed the windows nearest to Mr. Ling. It was a frantic bid to prevent the papers from being blown away. However, it was too late. The papers were blown away and out of the bus. Irate motorists travelling behind the bus honked incessantly. This freak incident caused a traffic jam as road-users weaved cautiously among the rush-hour traffic. By this time, the road was littered with the papers. It was a nuisance and a hazard to road-users.

To make matters worse, the female passenger, angered by his carelessness, approached him and rebuked him in the presence of everyone. She showed him her broken sunglasses and Mr. Ling lowered his head in shame.
