“Health is wealth” is an old wise saying which still holds true in this computer age. Health is indeed wealth because without good health, one would not be able to carry out their daily activities efficiently. There are two ways a person can attain good health. One is through diet and the other through exercise. Both are important.

Nowadays, due to the hectic fast-paced lifestyles, people would rather eat fast food and junk food because they are convenient and tasty. Balanced and nutritious meals are set aside in favour of these meals. As a result, modern man is plagued with all sorts of diseases from an early age.

When eating out, a person should avoid fatty fried meals and instead have meals which are low in fat and oil. A person should attempt to eat as much vegetables and fruits as possible. Refined sugar should be eliminated and white flour products should be avoided as much as possible. Vegetables have no cholesterol in them and are filled with nutrients and minerals. Special importance should be given to broccoli, carrots, cauliflower as they are cruciferous vegetables. This means they help fight cancer. To maintain good health, we should reduce our intake of meat, which is laden with cholesterol and consume fish at least three times, a week. Fish is said to be excellent for the heart and brain. Fizzy drinks should be substiuted for fresh, juice, The, fresher our food, the fresher and more dynamic we become.

An an experiment, researchers discovered that rats that performed exercises had bigger brains with more neural connections than those which did no exercise at all. There is a wide variety of exercise programs to choose from to suit our tastes. They are tai chi, yoga, kick boxing and aerobic dancing. When we exercise, our bodies are given the workout it needs to stay in optimum condition. Exercising helps prevent diseases and in some cases even drives it out. By constantly working out, we feel a sense of well being, our heart remains strong, our bodies remain youthful and flexible. Exercising also helps us remain mentally sharp.

It is wiser to start maintaining our health at a young age rather than to wait until we have health problems. For it goes without saying that prevention is always better than cure.
