The Stray

As I was walking home one day, I spotted a stray cat. It was sleeping on the bonnet of a car I stood a while just to dook at ithe sleeping creature. Suddenly there was a clap of thunder. Giant drops of rain pelted upon the ground and upon the cat. It leapt away as I ran towards home.

At my building’s void deck,I came across the cat again. It had sought shelter there. A group of noisy boys were also there. One of them had seen the cat and had run over to it. Apparently, the boys had been in the middle of making and taking dares.

“I dare you to break this cat’s legs!’’ cried the boy to his mates. I was horrified. I rushed up to my house I decided to alert the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or the SPCA. For good measure, I also informed the local police.

Above the sound of crashing thunder,I still could hear the taunting yells three floors below. When I peered outside, I was thankful to see a policeman on a bicycle riding towards the noises. Quickly, the noise subsided.For a while at least, the cat was saved.
