It was a gloomy afternoon, and I was sitting alone on a bench in the neighbourhood park. Earlier that day, I had received a disappointing test result. Feeling upset and embarrassed, I buried my face in my hands and wished to be left alone.

As I sat there, I noticed a skinny stray cat wandering around the park. It looked hungry and weak. An elderly woman nearby took out a small container of cat food from her bag and gently placed it on the ground. The cat approached cautiously before beginning to eat.

I watched as the woman stroked the cat softly and spoke to it in a soothing voice. She explained that she visited the park every day to feed the stray animals because many of them had no one to care for them. Her kindness touched my heart.

Noticing my sad expression, she walked over and sat beside me. Instead of asking questions, she simply offered me a warm smile and a packet of biscuits.

Somehow, that small gesture made me feel better. I found myself sharing my worries with her.

The elderly woman listened patiently and encouraged me not to give up. “One test does not decide your future,” she said kindly.

As I walked home later, I felt much lighter. The woman's thoughtful act had not only helped a helpless animal but had also comforted a discouraged child.

I learnt that even the smallest act of kindness can brighten someone's day and make a meaningful difference in their life.
