Two Wrongdoers Made An Unsuccessful Dash For Freedom

One sunny Tuesday morning, two men, Stanley and Roland, were shopping in a modern departmental store. It was well-lit and airconditioned. They looked suspicious and wanted to steal things from the premises. As they walked, they saw merchandise line the shelves. There was a wide range of goods on sale. They ranged from cutlery to vases. Salesgirls were having a hectic time as business was brisk. A large crowd of shoppers thronged the departmental store as Chinese Lunar New Year was fast approaching. Shoppers were pushing their way through the crowd. They went from shelf to shelf.

Stanley and Roland mingled with the crowd. Soon they made their way to a shelf where leather wallets were displayed openly. Seeing that the house detectives were not in sight, they seized the opportunity to steal two expensive wallets. They kept the articles easily in their pockets.

To avoid suspicion, they loitered at another section where toys and dolls were on sale. They pretended to examine the furry dolls; they posed as potential buyers and asked for the prices of a couple of toys and dolls. The salesgirl on duty did not sense something amiss.

On seeing that the coast was clear, they made their next move. They made the beeline for the exit. All of a sudden, a burly house detective, Mr. Tang, detained them as they had not paid for the two wallets. Their price tags were still intact. Just as they were being led to the office, these two shoplifters kicked and pushed Mr. Tang to the ground. They fled the scene on foot. A security guard, Richard, alerted by the commotion, brandished a revolver and stopped them from fleeing.
