What to do if your child does badly for PSLE but you do not want your child to go G1 or G2?
The Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) has been a major part of Singapore’s education system for many years.

As a former teacher, I would recommend to take G3 subjects from the beginning as it will be hard to get promoted in secondary 2 and 3 due to the child taking multiple subjects and difficulty would have increased by a lot Please read the article properly to help your child's future. Most of the school will let your child take all subjects at G3 level from beginning.
Under the current Achievement Level (AL) system, a higher AL score means the school is less academically selective (for example, AL 22 is less selective than AL 8). COPs can change slightly from year to year depending on demand.
Some secondary schools that have had relatively high COPs (around AL 21–22 for Posting Group 3) in recent years include:
Admiralty Secondary School – COP around AL 22
Assumption English School – COP around AL 22
Bartley Secondary School – COP around AL 21
Yio Chu Kang Secondary School – around AL 21–22
Mayflower Secondary School – around AL 20–21
Tanglin Secondary School – around AL 20–21
Jurongville Secondary School – around AL 20–21
Yuan Ching Secondary School – around AL 20–21
A few things to keep in mind:
High COP ≠ “bad school.” Many of these schools have strengths in sports, leadership programmes, Applied Learning Programmes (ALP), or nurturing environments.
COPs fluctuate. A school's COP may rise or fall by 1–2 points from year to year depending on popularity and cohort size.
School fit matters more than COP. Travel time, CCAs, subject combinations, school culture and support systems are often more important for a student's success.
For the 2026 intake, the schools below are among those with the highest PSLE AL cut-off points (COPs) for Posting Group 3, meaning they are generally less academically selective based on PSLE scores. A higher AL number (e.g., 22) indicates a higher COP. COPs can change slightly each year depending on demand and intake sizes. (School ranking & more)
Schools with COP of AL22
Admiralty Secondary School
Assumption English School
Bendemeer Secondary School
Boon Lay Secondary School
Broadrick Secondary School
Bukit Merah Secondary School

There are also several other schools with the same AL22 COP, including:
Northland Secondary School

Regent Secondary School
Sembawang Secondary School
Serangoon Garden Secondary School
Springfield Secondary School
Westwood Secondary School
Whitley Secondary School
Woodlands Secondary School
Woodlands Ring Secondary School
Yio Chu Kang Secondary School
Yuying Secondary School (Essential Education)
Important: A high COP does not mean a school is "bad." Many of these schools have strong programmes in sports, leadership, applied learning, and student support. School culture, travel distance, and the student's interests often matter more than COP alone.
Here’s a clear, realistic breakdown of “good AL22-range schools by region” in Singapore (based on recent PSLE Posting Group 3 COP ranges). These are neighbourhood secondary schools that typically accept AL ~20–22 students, and are commonly grouped by region.
🟦 WEST REGION (Jurong / Bukit Batok / Choa Chu Kang / Clementi)
These schools are known for larger intakes, broad CCAs, and applied learning programmes:
Assumption English School (AL22)
Boon Lay Secondary School (AL22)
Bukit Batok Secondary School (AL21–22 range in recent years)
Jurongville Secondary School (AL21–22)
Juying Secondary School (AL22)
Westwood Secondary School (AL12–22 range, less selective spread) (Ministry of Education)
Yuhua Secondary School (around AL20–21 range historically, slightly more selective than AL22 tier)
General vibe: strong CCA culture (sports, uniform groups), more applied learning, less academic pressure than elite schools.
🟩 NORTH REGION (Woodlands / Yishun / Sembawang)
Common AL21–22 schools here:
Admiralty Secondary School (AL22)
Northbrooks Secondary School (AL22)
Northland Secondary School (AL22)
Yishun Secondary School (AL21–22 range)
Yio Chu Kang Secondary School (AL21–22)
Evergreen Secondary School (often AL19–22 depending on year)
Marsiling Secondary School (AL22)
General vibe: structured discipline, strong uniform groups, decent academic support.
🟥 EAST REGION (Tampines / Pasir Ris / Bedok / Changi)
Typical AL21–22 schools:
Changkat Changi Secondary School (AL22)
East Spring Secondary School (AL22)
Loyang View Secondary School (AL22)
Damai Secondary School (AL22)
Pasir Ris Secondary School (often AL20–22 range)
Springfield Secondary School (AL22)
Tampines Secondary School (AL20–21 range)
General vibe: strong sports schools, very active student life, mixed academic profiles.
🟨 CENTRAL / SOUTH REGION (Toa Payoh / Queenstown / Bishan / Bukit Merah)
Fewer AL22 schools here, but key ones include:
Queenstown Secondary School (AL22)
Whitley Secondary School (AL22)
Bukit Merah Secondary School (AL22)
Bartley Secondary School (AL21)
St. Margaret’s Secondary School (sometimes AL20–22 range depending on year)
General vibe: more mixed intake, closer to city, some schools more academic-focused than outer regions.
⚠️ Important reality check (very important)
AL22 schools are NOT “bad schools.”
They simply have:
More diverse academic range
Stronger focus on CCA, discipline, vocational/applied learning
Many students from these schools still go to:
Polytechnics (common path)
Good JCs (via good O-Level results)
Universities later
MOE explicitly does not rank schools as good/bad. COP only reflects demand, not quality. (MOE).
