When My Pen Pal Came To Visit

My post contentI have a pen pal from Montreal, a city in Canada. I got to know her when I join the International Pen Pals' Club when I was in Primary Four. Before I met her in person, she had sent quite a few photographs of herself and her family. She seemed quite tall and she has blonde hair and blue eyes. She is the same age as I am. Her first language is French and English is her second language but she is quite fluent in English. She has many unusual hobbies such as collecting dolls from different countries, horse-riding and skiing.

Last year, during the September holidays, my pen pal,Lynette, wrote and said she would be coming to Singapore to visit me. Her mother would be coming with her. I was very excited and my parents were pleased too. I wrote back to Lynette to tell her that they could stay with us. They were scheduled to arrive at Changi Airport in the evening, so my parents and I went to the airport to pick them up.

I recognised her immediately at the airport. Surprisingly,Mrs Arnaud, Lynette’s mother was not blonde like her. Mrs Arnaud has black hair. After the introductions, my father drove all of us back. As my brothers were studying overseas,we have two spare bedrooms for Lynette and her mother.However, they chose to share just one bedroom.

Lynette and her mother were in Singapore for only four days. Fortunately, it was the holidays for both myself and my mother, who is a teacher. So, we could bring them to many interesting places in Singapore. The first two places we went to were the Zoo and Jurong Bird Park because Lynette loves animals. Lynette and her mother were very impressed by our zoo. We also went to Sentosa to have a picnic and we visited the National Museum and the Singapore Art Museum.

Lynette and her mother did a lot of shopping. Lynette’s mother is a seamstress, so she bought a lot of colourful silks and other materials and Lynette of course, bought about six dolls, dressed in different kinds of ethnic costumes. We also went to three types of restaurants so that Lynette and her mother could try Chinese, Malay and Indian food. Lynette did not like Malay and Indian food because she found it too spicy but Mrs Arnaud loves them.

On the fifth day, they got ready to leave. We sent them to Changi Airport and soon they were on their way back to Montreal. My parents and I will be visiting Lynette and her family in Montreal this coming December holidays. I am very excited and I cannot wait to see Lynette again.
