Wisdom on Diet

As a child, I loved sweet food – chocolates, candies, ice-creams, cakes, pies and even indian sweetmeat. My late father used to bring home big, brown paper packets containing a variety of sweetmeats. My favourite was a round, circular piece full of milk that simply melted in my mouth.

When I was almost a teenager, my mother realized that I had grown obese. Not fat but obese. At that stage, my diet consisted heavily of spicy food. Also, I enjoyed coconut rice, fried chicken and ‘junk’ food very much. I could not understand the fuss my mother made wer my eating habits. Many of my friends were enjoying the same kinds of food I ate too.

So, I continued eating whatever I fancied. One day, as I was watching television, I suddenly started gasping for air. I found it hard to breathe. I blacked out. When I regained consciousness, I was in hospital. I had had a heart attack! I was only thirteen.

After that painful episode, I vowed to change my eating habits. I now eat more greens and cereals. I would rather give up the pleasures of sweet food for a healthier and longer life.
