It was a rainy night in September. Ridzal and his elder sister, Nora were alone at home because their parents had gone to a party. Ridzal was playing a game on the computer while Nora was talking on the telephone. Suddenly, they heard some shouting from their neighbour’s flat.

“Mr and Mrs Lee must be quarrelling again,” Ridzal thought.Their neighbours, the Lees were quite pleasant but they had been quarrelling quite frequently during the past few months.Ridzal’s parents tried to intervene on a few occasions and they usually succeeded in calming the Lees down. However, sometimes the quarrels got quite bad and Ridzal’s parents became too afraid to intervene.

On that night, the quarrel was quite intense and loud Mr Lee was quite skinny and short but he had a very loud voice. Mrs Lee was short and a little on the plump side, and she had an equally loud voice too. To make matters worse their only child, who was about a year old, was crying very loudly.

Suddenly, Ridzal and Nora heard plates crashing to the floor. Nora decided to stop chatting on the telephone. She told Ridzal that they need to go over to see what was happening. They tip-toed over to the Lee’s flat and peeped in through the front window. To their horror, they saw Mr Lee chasing Mrs Lee with a knife in his hand. Mrs Lee was throwing some plates and cups at him. Then, Mr Lee caught hold of Mrs Lee’s hair and plunged the knife into her throat.Ridzal wanted to scream but he was too shocked. Nora was trembling with fear and shock, but she managed to pull Ridzal away.

They went back to their flat and called the police. They also called their parents on their mobile phone. Nora sobbed while she told her parents what had happened. The police arrived in five minutes, but Mrs Lee was already dead. Mr Lee was still standing there in shock with the knife in his hand. There was lots of blood. Their poor baby was still crying at the top of his voice.

When the police was about to arrest Mr Lee, he struggled and ran to the kitchen window. He jumped to his death from his twelfth storey flat. Nora and Ridzal’s parents came back soon after. They were horrified to learn about the tragic incident. Nora and Ridzal had to stay in hospital for a few days to be treated for shock.
