One Saturday morning, my mother handed me a bucket filled with cleaning supplies.
“If you want to earn something special, you must work hard for it,” she said with a smile.
Curious, I asked what she meant. My mother explained that our family would be hosting a gathering in a month's time. If I helped to clean the house regularly and carried out my chores responsibly, I would receive a reward.
Determined to prove myself, I accepted the challenge. Every weekend, I swept the floors, wiped the windows and organised the shelves. At first, I found the tasks tiring. While my friends were playing outside, I was busy scrubbing tables and dusting furniture. There were moments when I wanted to give up, but I reminded myself of my goal.
As the weeks passed, I became more responsible and efficient. To my surprise, I even began to enjoy seeing the house sparkle after every cleaning session.
Finally, the day of the gathering arrived. After the guests had left, my parents called me into the living room. My father handed me a beautifully wrapped gift box while my mother gave me an envelope.
Inside the envelope was an invitation to a family trip to Japan during the school holidays. The gift box contained a brand-new watch that I had admired for months.
I was overjoyed. However, the greatest reward was not the presents. Through hard work and perseverance, I had learned the value of responsibility and dedication.
