Write a review of a play that you have seen.

A Play

Actually I was not really interested in seeing the play, but my parents were both away. The last thing I wanted to see was ‘Romeo and Juliet’ put up by an all female cast. But my sister, Cynthia, was playing Juliet and she wanted at least one member of her family to see it. So I went expecting it to be a complete waste of time. It wasn’t.

I arrived at the theatre in good time because I wanted to see ‘Juliet’ before the play began. I wished her all the best and she introduced me to all her school mates. Obviously she had told them a lot about me, judging from the curious looks they gave me.

The play began exactly at the time announced.I was fascinated that amateur school girl actors could do so well. I was particularly impressed with the girl who played ‘Romeo’. In fact all the girls who played the male parts did well — except for their high voices. But then hadn’t I watched movies and suspended disbelief? I just did the same and saw ‘Romeo and Juliet’ played like never before.

What made the play truly well performed was that the players could really portray emotion in all the parts that demanded it. I always thought only profes sional actors could do that. Again I realised that I had been wrong. Though I had read the play before and seen it being performed a couple of times, it is this particular performance that I will always remember.

After the play, I went back stage and told all the actors what I really thought of their performance. They heaved a sigh of relief, especially ‘Juliet’. It seems that they were actually thinking that they had not done well enough. What perfectionists!
