Write a story containing the sentence ‘I gave everyone a shock.’

Lightning does not strike everybody. One day it struck me. I was playing catch with a group of the guys when it happened. It was raining, not that we cared. We played on as if it was not. Then it struck me squarely on my head. I must have blacked out because when I awoke, I was in a hospital bed with my old man looking at me. Without much ado he took me home and along the way warned me to keep away from lightning in future.

Next day, in school, I discovered that I gave everyone a shock. I started with Alvin the class bully. He had been picking on me the whole year and I would have given anything to get even with him. He pushed me during assembly. I fell and became very angry. I got up and glared at him. He pushed me and this time as soon as he touched me he recoiled in horror. His hair stood on end. I had given him an electric shock! I found out that I liked to do that and I touched him again. He howled and ran from me. I started to laugh. Then Peter came and slapped me on the shoulder by way of congratulating me and nothing happened to him.

Over the next few days, I discovered a few things. I found out that I became shocking when I became angry. I told my old man about it. He shrugged his shoulders and said, “Nothing about you will ever surprise me.” But he took me to the doctor anyway. The doctor shook his head sadly and said that there was nothing he could do. Whatever it was had to go away by itself — if it did. So I remain shocking to people who make me angry. One good thing about it is that Alvin leaves me alone now.
