Write a story entitled 'Home at last'.

My father had fought the enemy and we had lost. That was ten years ago. Along with a thousand others he had been captured and we had thought that he was dead. Then after a long time peace was established between the two nations. There was a general agreement to exchange prisoners. Tears leapt into my eyes as I realised that I was going to meet my father after ten years. Ma had died, pining away for her husband. I had married a nice man – an army officer. I had a daughter — Elaine — whom I had named after my mother. I looked forward to meet the man whom I had last seen when I was ten.

As soon as he and his companions stepped out of the plane, they did something I shall remember forever. They went away from the red carpet that was laid for them and fell on their knees as a group and kissed the earth of their beloved Singapore. It was a moving gesture and all of us in the airport burst into tears. Then they walked down into the welcome shed and stood in a long line for us to identify them. There was pandemonium as we ran forward to meet our loved ones. I had Elaine in my arms and dragged my husband forward. I looked everywhere and actually passed my father before I saw him.

He looked drawn and weak and looked straight into my eyes. Recognition dawned on both if us. “Dad!” I screamed and hugged him tight to me. Then my husband and Elaine and all of us joined in a family hug and cried and cried. It was a long time before we all burst out laughing together. Then my father became solemn. “Home at last,” he whispered hoarsely I took out my handkerchief and dried his tears.
