The Sun

In ancient times our ancestors worshipped the sun. In fact in many religions, the sun is the first god. This is not to be wondered at as even to the most primitive minds, it must have been obvious that the sun is the Giver of All Life. Whether they understood god or not, our ancestors understood that the sun was the visible god—the father of all life and who gave them everything. So we find the sun deified in most of the religions that came from man’s observation of nature, such as the religion of the Egyptians and Hinduism.

Indeed the sun is everything to us. From 93 million miles it gives us a steady stream of energy without which there will be no life on earth as we know it. It is the regulated heat of the sun that has made it possible for the earth to be inhabited. Besides just making it possible, the sun continues to give us the necessary support without which we will be no more.

The sun’s rays give us light and heat and this causes a few cycles of life on earth. The water cycle is caused by the sun. The heat from the sun absorbs the water from the earth and this water later condenses and comes down again as rain, to be absorbed again and the cycle con tinues. Plants depend on the sun in order to be able to make food. Without the sun plants will cease to exist and that will cause the animals to die out too – including man. This is because all animals are dependent on plants for their food.

The sun can be summarised in a single statement: Without the sun, there is no life on our planet.
