Hospitals

Hospitals are places where the sick are made whole. They are equipped with the latest in health equipment and in medicines and manned by the foremost in experts on health care. They operate for 24 hours a day and it is obvious that without them a lot of people will suffer from various diseases and more people will meet early deaths.

Hospitals themselves are not just buildings where work goes on. They are institutions where the work which goes on centres around the relief of suffering and extending lives. Such work is sacred work and must earn the respect of all of us. As in any work or institution, in the centre of everything are people. So the most important aspects of a hospital are the people who run it. In fact they are what give soul to a hospital.

It is my opinion that people in the health care professions – like nurses and doctors — are special human beings. They are caring and dedicated to their duties, otherwise they would have chosen other ways of making a living. If we look at their lifestyles we see that their job takes everything from them. Their working hours are long and everyday they work in the midst of pain and misery. They are on shift duties, which means that unlike most of us, they work at times when we are asleep. They also work during weekends and their family lives are disrupted.

In every civilised countries hospitals are special institutions and without them there will be much pain and misery and more deaths. It is our responsibility to be mindful always of the important parts that they play in all our lives and show them our appreciation.
