A Boxing Match
The opponents were well matched and I leaned forward in order not to miss anything. The referee called the two boxers to him and reminded them that he wanted to see a fair fight. Then the boxers went to their corers to wait for the bell. The bell went and I saw the boxers get up and go at each other. They began to throw a few punches to size each other up. No serious damage was done though each boxer seemed to be taking several punches from the other. Then suddenly Red came in with a straight left to Blue’s stomach. He connected and I heard the ‘oof!’ From Blue. Before he could recover Red followed with a right cross to Blue’s cheek. I heard the punch land and saw Blue stagger. But he recovered fast and almost immediately feigned a left to Red’s cheek and when Red ducked, followed up with. Combination punches to Red’s head. At least one of the punches must have connected as I saw Red staggering.
Both boxers slowed down after that. They seemed more wary of each other and though many punches were thrown, few found their targets. Then the bell went and the boxers went to their corners. One minute flew by fast and the bell went again. This time they rushed at each other and I saw several punches landing on both of them. By the middle of the round, Red was bleeding from a cut on his chin. He fought back hard and before long Blue was bleeding too. The crowd cheered and the round ended.
The last round was a slow one as both boxers were weakened and tired as well. By now it was clear that Blue was ahead and that Red was fighting back very hard. But we could not say, in the ring often fights are reversed at the last second. But in this case, nothing dramatic happened and Blue kept his lead. The round ended, but we were not sure which boxer had won.
Soon the referee announced that Blue had won on points. Like the gentleman that he was, Red walked over and congratulated his opponent. The crowd cheered. Red was rewarded however, he was given a prize for ‘Best Loser’ in the entire tournament.
