You Dare

Sam and his friend, Pete, had dared each other to spend a night in a spooky house somewhere near a forest. After packing their bags, they set off on their bicycles in the evening.

About half an hour later, they found themselves in front of a hut which had been terribly neglected for a long time.

To carry out the dare, both of them plucked up their courage and knocked on the door. There was no reply at all They then pushed the door which creaked reluctantly as it opened.

As they entered the hut, they discovered that there were cobwebs everywhere. However, it was well-furnished. As they continued to explore, the door slammed shut by itself. Both of them jumped up in fright. Holding a torch each, they spotted a flight of stairs not far from them. As they were approaching the stairway, Sam tumbled over something. Then he shone his torch at it. “Ah....A dead rat!” screamed Sam at the top of his voice. Unhesitantly, Sam kicked it away and both of them came to the stairs.

There were many rooms upstairs. Sam and Pete decided to explore all of them so that they could get a feel of what was in store in every room. The first room where they stepped in was full of paintings and funny mirrors. They felt very uneasy after looking at the mirrors. As for the paintings, they only projected life-sized portraits of a lady, pretty and elegant. However, her eyes seemed to blink every now and then. Furthermore, a wicked grin on her face took both Sam and Pete by surprise. They were extremely frightened. Almost every strand of their hair was standing on ends. Without much thought, Sam started screaming. He took to his heels and Pete followed closely behind.

They ran as fast as their legs could carry them. As they reached the main door, it opened by itself. Without a word, they grabbed their bicycles and jumped on them. They did not dare to look back at the hut anymore.
